Presentation
A technical masterpiece by Auguste Lucien Vérité, the Besançon Astronomical Clock is a 5-metre-high, 2-tonne behemoth that combines technical research and poetry.
It ensures theoperation of the cathedral's external and internaltime dials , as well as 2 Comtoises bells, and is equipped with a precise and complex mechanism comprising more than 30,000 parts and 11 movements. Currently at a standstill, the students will work with the mediator to discover the design of this emblematic 19th-century work and, above all, the technical challenge of restoring it to working order.
